However, these religious traditions, often interpreted and upheld by dominant caste male leaders, have historically contributed to the inferior position of women within both family and society.
Directed by award-winning feminist filmmaker and founder of Faith Futures Collective Disha Arora, this documentary delves into the complex relationship between religion and women’s rights in India. With over a decade of experience in storytelling for social impact, Disha is committed to challenging gender-based discrimination through powerful narratives.
Shot over 300 days across 14 states, this groundbreaking film captures the experiences of over 200 women and girls from five major religions.
It explores how faith influences women’s constitutional rights and highlights the evolving roles of women who challenge, redefine, and navigate religious traditions in their pursuit of equality.
